Funding an Undergraduate Degree
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering grants scholarships and awards annually to undergraduate students. This funding is made possible by donors and supporters of the department including former students, family and friends, former faculty and industry sponsors. Most recently, Mrs. Vivian P. Follett established a scholarship in the memory of her husband, George H. Follett, Agricultural Engineering graduate, class of ’31. This scholarship will be awarded annually with about one-half of those going to incoming freshmen.

Funding a Graduate Degree
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering supports graduate students through assistantships, fellowships, and travel and research grants.
Note: Academic admission to the department is separate from financial support. If a student receives financial support from the department or his/her professor, that information will be communicated separately from a student’s academic admission.
Graduate Student Scholarships
The department offers several, competitive scholarships each fall to qualified applicants. The call for applications is sent to all incoming and continuing students each summer. Scholarship awards are currently $1,000 per awardee, per year.
Graduate Student Assistantships
Teaching Assistantships
The department employs current graduate students as Teaching Assistants each fall and spring term. Student nominations are requested before each term from departmental faculty. If a student is interested in a teaching assistantship position, he/she should speak with their departmental professor(s).
Research Assistantships
The department employs current graduate students as Research Assistants throughout the academic year. If a student is interested in a research assistantship position, he/she should speak with their departmental professor(s).

Non-Resident Tuition Waiver for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
The Competitive Scholarship waiver, authorized under Texas Education Code 54.213a, is an optional waiver that institutions can implement. An eligible non-resident student who holds a competitive academic scholarship of a specified minimum dollar amount for the academic year or summer for which the student is enrolled may be eligible to pay the fees and charges required of Texas residents without regard to the length of time the student has resided in Texas. Undergraduates are eligible up to $4,000 and graduate students $1,000 per an academic year.
