The Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department provides quality education, research and outreach in engineering and technology for the world’s agricultural, biological, environmental and food systems. Our undergraduate programs provide a high quality education for engineering and systems management students to fulfill the needs of industries we serve and advance our reputation as a world leader in engineering and systems management education.

Biological and Agricultural Engineering Program Details

The biological and agricultural engineering program develops graduates who can pursue engineering careers in industry, academia, consulting or government. Students learn to apply fundamental knowledge of biological and physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering principles to formulate and solve engineering problems. Engineering design is integrated throughout the curriculum, along with opportunities to develop communication, learning, and teamwork skills, culminating in a capstone design experience.

Biological and Agricultural Engineering Fast Track Program

The Fast Track program in Biological and Agricultural Engineering allows students interested in graduate school to get a head start on their graduate coursework by taking dual-credit courses that count both toward their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Vision Statement

The Texas A&M Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering will be recognized internationally as a premier department of its kind, known for faculty and graduates who devise solutions to global grand challenges in food, fiber, and environmental sustainability.

Mission Statement

The B.S. Program in Biological and Agricultural Engineering prepares our students to create engineering solutions to protect and sustain the environment, improve health, and feed the world through innovative education in Machine and Energy Systems, Food and Bioprocessing and Environmental and Natural Resources.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates from the Biological and Agricultural Engineering program, will after several years, have:

  1. Successfully entered the biological and agricultural engineering profession.
  2. Successfully pursued graduate education and research at major universities in biological and agricultural engineering, and related fields.
  3. Advanced into leadership positions in their chosen fields, professions, and society.
  4. Engaged in life-long learning through professional licensure and professional development.
  5. Contributed to the impact of the profession by creating inclusive, global, and culturally relevant engineering solutions.

Student Outcomes

The student outcomes that prepare graduates to attain the program educational objectives are:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
