Sustainable and Integrated Water Infrastructure: What it is and why we need it.
Dr. Anish Jantrania
Associate Professor & Extension Specialist, Biological & Agricultural Engineering Department
Blackland Research & Extension Center – Temple, Texas
Abstract: The Sustainable and Integrated Water Infrastructure (SIWI) concept is being developed at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Blackland Research and Extension Center (BREC), to promote viable water and wastewater infrastructure development through improved planning and thoughtful evaluation. SIWI pronounced “sigh-Y”, has been coined to garner attention in a manner similar to the term WIFI which brought attention to wireless communication. This presentation will explain the SIWI concept, present examples of decentralized water and wastewater infrastructure, wastewater reuse systems, and desalination systems. We will also discuss why we need SIWI and the role Texas A&M University will play in promoting and building SIWI.
Reception at 3:30 pm.
