The Big Event is the longest running, student-led service project held every year on a Saturday in early spring. It is a day where the largest group of students come together to complete service projects for residents of Bryan and College Station to show appreciation for the community. Services include doing yard
work, painting, and other helpful projects. This year, The Big Event was held on March 25 where the department’s AGSM student club participated for the first time.
Led by senior and club historian, Allison Thomason, the group of six including John Paul Smith, Rachael Stapper, Jeffrey Koop, Tyler Zamorano, and Seth Witt, were assigned to alumni couple, the Herrons. With a baby on the way and an energetic five-year-old, the couple needed a helping hand. The group had a wonderful time painting the couples’ guesthouse and setting the groundwork for an amazing treehouse. As an extra perk, the hosts provided delicious hotdogs. With their first Big Event under their belts, AGSM hopes for similar successes for years to come.
Corrected: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated this was the AGSM club’s first Big Event. The AGSM club has helped with other Big Events over the last several years.
